Well I was determined not to share any of this build until I was
to the point I'd actually get it finished for a change.
Seems so many projects of mine just died a slow death and bit
the dust. But I'm in the home stretch with this one, so here goes.
I was quite excited when I first saw this on the shelf at the lhs.
I knew the kit was out but I didn't really know much about it.
So when I was perusing the selection a few weeks ago and lo and
behold there it was, I looked at the box and nearly jumped for joy.
"Hey look, it not an SS!" Ding!
Then of course I started reading the side panel all about the great
409 engine under the hood.
"Grumble, grumble . . . do they think that's the only engine Chevy
ever put in these cars?" Buzz!
So back on the shelf it went while I wandered around some more.
Now the guy who owns the lhs here recently started selling Tamiya
sprays cans. At ten bucks a pop they're a lil' pricey, but when I
saw the Metallic Blue I grabbed that lone can and went back to the
model shelf and snagged that kit! Ding! Ding!!
There used to be a 1:1 running around town painted the exact same
shade of blue, stock looking in every respect except for the paint
which seems a bit darker than a factory color. I actually talked to
the owner one time at the local mall when we were parked just a few
stalls from each other, and he told me he'd replaced the original
283 with a 350. It was no street machine, just a nice looking mostly
original car that had been given a few upgrades. So it seemed only
natural that since my ' 69 Nova kit didn't have its wheels anymore
that it should surrender it's engine to this project.
There's nothing like being able to replicate someones actual car
when you're building something, is there?
Just off the showroom floor? Ummm . . we'll just make up on of those
subcategories like I'm fond of doing sometimes. How about this?
Factory Stock - a few years down the road.
I went with ' 66 Nassau Blue for the interior after finding some great
pics online of a white ' 62 with a similar colored single tone interior.
The engine dropped right into place with only a little bit of a trim
here and there, along with some minor cutting and bending of the exhaust.
I only have a couple of minor things left and then it'll be time to slap
this sucker together!
Regards,
sfd
